Enugu most horrible slum

The saying “cleanliness is next to godliness” is not binding to the residents of Abakpa in Enugu East Loacal Government Area of Enugu State.
With a population of about 750,000 residents, Abakpa is a commercial settlement with relatively affordable apartments.
Some neighborhoods like Ugbo-oye, Housing Estate, Atani and Imo Rivers. Others include Odo-Ozo close, Umuagu, Nike Road and Ukwu Aki junction.
We observed that the condition of live in these areas is so horrible and is extremely detrimental to the healthy living.
Although Abakpa occupies a setting of magnificent natural beauty, rather poverty and urban sprawl have spawned the densely populated neighborhood.
In Abakpa, hardly would you see a neighborhood without being greeted by wastes heaped on the road, littered streets and black water gushing from homes.
Some of the residents that spoke to us expressed their desire to see a better environment and are pleading on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to come to their aid.
Below are  pictorial view of Enugu’s most horrible slum.

More on this story will be coming your way in our next edition. There you will discover what it looks like to live in Enugu’s most horrible slum.

Motorists and residents of Emene Industrial Layout Enugu have decried the deplorable state of roads leading to and within the area.
According to them, the negative impact of the dilapidated road on their vehicle is becoming unbearable as they now visit mechanics on daily basis.
Beside the wear and tear on their vehicles, dusts emanating from the road has had its toll on the health of residents/business owners in area.
“Each time I ply this road I go to mechanic and I have no other option. I call on the state government to ameliorate this hardship. This is the industrial hub of Enugu State. I don’t understand why roads here should be left in this condition”. Cried Mr. Chuka Ene.
Mr  Raph Nwankwo who resides in Orie Emene while praising the government for the extent of development witnessed in Enugu so far pleaded for the mercy of whom it may concern to improve the welfare of Emene residents.
“The Government is trying; other part of Enugu is now like Buckingham Palace, we call on the state and local government to have pity on us. Imagine what this road will become once rain start. Already the little rains have started to impair movement of traffic here”.
Mr Okezie Ebuka who owns a kiosk along Orie Emene road who spoke in pidgin lamented the rate at which dust has redress the colours of the cloths he sales.
“Now I come dey use tapolin to cover my cloth, small thing the dust go change the colour of my clothes, white go dey like sand; see am na”.
Chika Ezengwu a nursing mother said she could no longer bring her new born baby to the shop because she fears dust could cause her illness.
Some of the roads though with some shadow of work cast on them from the airport gate into the suburb is in pitiable state.
It is very visible that some of the gully and grading  constructed  earlier and abandoned has now incurred so much hardship on residents and road users alike.
Some has also called on the incoming government that will be led by Rt. Hon. Ifaenyi Ugwuanyi to immediately prioritize the road after assuming office come May 29th.

Alert!! Corporate thieves on the increase in Enugu Banks

Residents and activities in Achara layout Enugu was recently held to a stand still when two middle aged women later indentified as Miss Chinwe and Mrs Njideka [surnames witheld by us] traded insults on each other nearly exchanging punchs in the utterly heated situation to the awe of the viewing public screening the live undirected scene of better-to-act in Nollywood. The NARRATOR later gathered that the altercation erupted from a long dormant but furiously rumbling coperate miss did in a new generation bank. Report has it that there is an increase in theft among commercial banks operating in Enugu state.
Investigation revealed that there is an upsurge in customer complainants of being short-changed each time they come to make payment over the counter.
Narratng her ordeal, Miss Chinwe a victim of this coperate robbery, recently shortchanged a huge amount of money told us how this trend has been a constant occurrence each time she goes to make her payment.
She went as far as singling out Njideka a staff of the new generation banks located along Agbani road, Enugu South local government area.
Chinwe who sounded so enraged, openly accused Njideka of always shortchanging her whenever she comes to make payment in the said bank.
“I have always noticed the way she counts my money anytime I come to make payments.” Miss Chinwe recounts.
“Every time I come here, she will always tell me that my money runs short of what I filled in the teller, even when I am sure that I gave her the complete amount. I have lost huge sum of money because of this open day robbery,” she cries out.
When asked how she became convinced that it was a deliberate attempt by the staff in question to cheat her of her money.
Chimwe snaped “I am very sure she was the one, in fact, recently I purposely ensured that I rearranged my money to set a trap for her and she fell into the trap and I have witnesses.”
When asked if she reported the matter to the bank management. She answered “Yes I raised alarm in the bank over the issue, but the manager defended her out rightly even without carrying out any investigation. I got frustrated and that is why I decided to confront her like this as she is going home from work.”
Miss Chinwe who looked downcast further expressed the desire to let the world know what shes been suffering from an institution believed to be saddled with upholding public trust.
When THE NARRATOR approached Mrs. Njideka on the accusation, the suspect who claimed busy said she has nothing to say.
Meanwhile, the assistant bank manager of the said bank Mr. Obinna (surname withheld by us) claimed ignorance of the customer’s complaint maintaining that ``any`` irreglarity in the bank is ``always`` directed to management in writing. And i ask myself, what is his job descrition?
He further directed us to their regional headquarters for more clarification as it is against their ethics for him to speak without directive from the headquarters on any issue.
Miss Chinwe maybe one a few who had the courage to speak out against this new cankerworm bedeviling the banking sector here in Enugu.
Further investigation carried out by us proved that the issue of dubiously shortchanging customers of their hard-earned money while making payment in banks is more prevalent among some banks located in Agbani road, here in Enugu.
``I had gone to a bank to withdraw money from counter, she gave me a mint wrap of one thousand notes. On getting home, i noticed tha a five hundred naira was embeded at the center. Had it been another person did the withdrawal for me, i would never have agreed its a laps from the bank``  larmented Mr. Adekunle Olawale a bank subscriber
The bank authorities are adviced to beef up the surveillance on the activities of their staff as the nefarous acts of some could drag the good reputation of their banks to the mud.
The next time you are to make payment, carefully watch when your money is being counted after you must have counted it yourself to avoid being told some notes are missing.
